When can children start?

We offer education and care for children below the compulsory school age from 2 years upwards.

Older children are also invited to join the reception class term before they start Primary School next door by their Primary School teacher for a settling in period. They are encouraged to join in with play and story time, thus ensuring the best start to their 'school life' proper.

Currently we are able to offer ratios of 1-4 adults for 2 year olds and 1-8 adults for 3-4 year olds

Starting Pre-School - The First days

A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to play, interact or learn properly. We feel it is vital that parents
and Pre-School staff work together to help fill the child with confidence and security within the group.
This can take a little longer for some children, and parents need not feel worried if their child settles in more slowly.

Parents are always welcome to attend Pre-School with their child for the term before eligibilty, in order to help
both the parent and child to acclimatise successfully.

What to wear

In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including the messy ones,
it is best to send children dressed in clothes that be easily laundered and not too new. Simple clothing, which they can remove easily, will also enable them to use the toilet and go outside and back in without too much dependancy on the staff, thus giving them the feeling of personal autonomy.
It is always helpful if you ensure your childs clothing is clearly labeled.
